The short version

  • Your workouts, runs, meals, check-ins and body readings live in the app, on your phone. I do not hold any of it. There is no RunLift account and no sign-up.
  • Your logged data is not sent anywhere unless you use the AI coach, scan a barcode, or the app checks for an update. Details below.
  • The free version of RunLift will show adverts from Google AdMob, which uses your phone’s advertising ID. RunLift Plus, a paid subscription, has no adverts. Your workouts, health data and coach messages are never used for advertising, and I never sell your data.
  • You can delete everything by uninstalling the app.

Who I am

RunLift is made by an individual developer based in the United Kingdom. I do not hold what you log: it never reaches me. The only information I handle is the very small amount the optional coach service needs to work (see “The AI coach”), and anything you choose to send me through the feedback form. I am the data controller for just that. You can contact me at support@ousevalleyit.co.uk.

What stays on your phone

Everything you log is saved in a database on your device: strength workouts and sets, runs and run plans (including the routes of runs you record with GPS), meals and nutrition, weight, morning check-ins (sleep, soreness, mood), your goals, and your settings. I cannot see any of it. It is not backed up to a server by RunLift.

If you use Back up, the app creates a file and hands it to you to save or share wherever you choose. Where it goes after that is up to you.

If you turn on reminders, they are scheduled on your phone. Android asks your permission first. No reminder content leaves the device.

Health Connect

If you choose to connect Health Connect, RunLift asks Android for read-only access to: steps, heart rate, exercise sessions, distance, active and total calories burned, sleep, weight, heart rate variability and resting heart rate. You can grant some or all of these, and you can withdraw access at any time in Health Connect → App permissions → RunLift.

RunLift reads this data to show your activity, recovery and readiness inside the app, and it is stored only on your phone. RunLift never writes to Health Connect.

Health Connect data is used only to provide features you can see in the app. It is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared with data brokers or information resellers. The one case where a summary of it can leave your phone is the optional AI coach, described next.

Recording runs with GPS (optional)

If you tap Record a run, RunLift asks Android for your precise location, “while using the app” only. Location is used only while a run is being recorded: from when you tap Start until you finish or discard the run. While recording, Android shows a notification saying RunLift is recording your run, so it carries on with the screen off. RunLift never asks for location “all the time” and never uses it in the background otherwise.

The route (the readings, with their times) is saved only on your phone, with the run. It is never sent to RunLift, the coach, advertisers or anyone else; the coach only sees the run’s distance and time, like any run you log. Deleting the run deletes its route. A backup file you make yourself includes your routes.

The AI coach (optional)

The coach is the only feature that sends your information off the phone, and only when you open it and send a message (or use “Just tell me” logging or the plan chooser). To answer, the coach is given a plain-text summary of your recent activity, which can include workouts, runs and plans, meals and nutrition, check-ins, and, if you have connected Health Connect, daily figures such as steps, sleep, heart rate, resting heart rate, HRV and weight, plus whatever you type.

You agree first. Before anything is sent for the first time, RunLift shows a screen that lists exactly what is shared and where it goes, and asks you to agree. If you say no, nothing is sent. Your agreement is kept on your phone only, and you can stop sharing at any time in Settings → AI assistant (you will be asked again if you want to use the AI later).

That text is processed by Anthropic (the company behind Claude) to write the reply. There are two ways to use the coach:

OptionWhat happens
Free coach (default)Your request goes to RunLift’s coach service, a small program running on Cloudflare, which checks your allowance and forwards the request to Anthropic using RunLift’s account. The coach service does not store what you write or what the coach replies. It keeps only: a random pass number made for your install, the plan (free taster or Plus), and counts of how many messages you have used. It also keeps overall daily totals of how much the service was used (token counts), which are not linked to you. To limit abuse it also keeps a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your network address for that day only.
Your own API keyIf you paste your own Anthropic API key in Settings, it is kept in Android’s secure storage on your phone and requests go straight from your phone to Anthropic. They do not pass through RunLift’s service.

Please do not put anything in a coach message that you would not want processed by Anthropic. How Anthropic handles data is covered in its privacy policy. The coach gives general fitness information, not medical advice.

Adverts in the free version (Google AdMob)

To help pay for RunLift, the free version will show at most one full-screen advert a day, after you save a workout. Adverts are not shown during a workout, when the app opens, or in your first few days. RunLift Plus has no adverts.

Adverts are provided by Google AdMob. To show and measure them, Google’s advertising software in the app collects your phone’s advertising ID, your approximate location (worked out from your network address), how you interact with the advert, and diagnostic information such as crashes. This goes to Google, who use it for advertising, measurement and fraud prevention. RunLift does not give AdMob anything you have logged: no workouts, runs, meals, health data or coach messages.

You choose first. In the UK and EEA, before any advert is shown, Google’s consent form asks whether you agree to personalised adverts. If you do not, you may still see adverts, but they are not personalised. You can change your choice in the app’s settings, and you can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in Android’s settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads). How Google uses this data is covered in Google’s explanation and its privacy policy.

RunLift Plus (paid subscription)

RunLift Plus is a subscription bought through Google Play. Google Play handles the payment: RunLift never sees your card details. To check whether your subscription is active, RunLift uses RevenueCat, a subscription service. RevenueCat receives your Google Play purchase details (which plan, when it started and renews) and the random coach pass number for your install. It does not receive anything you have logged. RunLift’s coach service then asks RevenueCat whether your subscription is active, to give you the Plus allowance. How RevenueCat handles data is covered in its privacy policy.

Other things the app contacts

This website and the feedback form

This website does not use cookies or analytics. It is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs, and its pages load fonts from Google Fonts and an animation library from cdnjs, so those services can see your network address when you visit. If you choose to fill in the feedback form, your answers, and your email only if you add one, are sent to me by the form service Web3Forms and arrive in my inbox. I use them to improve RunLift and to reply if you asked me to, and I keep them only as long as that is useful. Ask me to delete yours at any time.

Permissions the app asks for

Children

RunLift is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect information from them.

Keeping your data and deleting it

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, and complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). Because almost everything lives on your own phone, most of this you can do yourself in the app.

Security

The coach service and every other connection use HTTPS. Your own API key, if you add one, and your coach pass are kept in Android’s secure storage. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your phone locked and updated.

Changes

If I change how RunLift handles data, I will update this page and the date at the top before the change goes live, and I will ask for your consent where the law requires it.
